Penta Real Estate will rebuild the Post Office building in Hybernská Street
The original Post Office building, situated directly on the junction of Hybernská and Opletalova streets has not served its former purpose for many years and has remained in a neglected state. Now, a new building will emerge on the centrally located plot of about 1600 sqm.
"The jury recommended the design proposal by Jakub Klaška, who as a long-time member of the Zaha Hadid Architects team, has been involved in the planning and designing of the Masarycka building and knows the area in detail. He is currently working and creating within his own studio, but it is clear that the winning design connects very well to the existing buildings in vicinity of the site. The proposal impressed especially with its design, work with detail and sensitive connection of both historical and new elements," says Pavel Streblov, Sales Director of Penta Real Estate.
The Post Office project will improve the quality of public space adjacent to the central part of Hybernská Street and at the same time it will build on the general reconstruction of Masaryk Station that has just started, including a planned creation of the new platform above the railway track. New retail space will be created on the ground floor of the building, with office and/or coworking space planned on the upper floors. The gross floor area of the building will be around 7300 sqm.
"Historic architectural elements, such as cornices, deep facade structures and distinctive textures, are all translated into a contemporary architectural language that relates to the surrounding rhythm and scale. Key original parts, such as the vaulted arches on the ground floor, play an important role in the organisation of the building and are now also revealed to the public realm through the transparent façade of the ground floor," comments the winning design its creator, architect Jakub Klaška of Klaska Ltd. Studio.
